FINAL RESOLUTION

RESOLUTION 26-001

WHEREAS “whimsy” is defined as “a fanciful or fantastic device, object, or creation”^[1] having “a playful or amusing quality”^[2] and being “playfully quant” or “odd.”^[3]

WHEREAS the world is full of institutions, processes, goods and services in which the level of whimsy is important.

WHEREAS many situations arise in which the level of whimsy is incorrect, producing side effects such as harm or sadness.

WHEREAS the application or withholding of whimsy has the potential to cause great harm or dissatisfaction, further depression, misinformation, fear, or delusion.

WHEREAS up to this point, there has been no body, institution, person or system centrally tasked with the duties of governance, documentation and advice in matters relating to whimsy, and such a vacuum has allowed a trend of incorrectness in regards to whimsy levels to proliferate.

It is resolved that this body, the Whimsy Governance Board shall take on the duties of governance, documentation and advice in matters of whimsy.

The Board shall, when called upon by a member of the public in need, provide its opinion, making use of all available resources, experts, information, and after deliberation, issue its findings. Members of the public shall be able to seek the guidance of the Board by electronically mailing a short description of the matter needing attention to board@whimsygov.org.

The Board shall modify its membership as needed in order to ensure its swift and sensical operation in an ever shifting whimsy landscape.

Appendix I “BOARD MEMBERS”

The Board is made up of three members. By Board policy, three members are required to be present for quorum. Public meeting laws do not require meetings of a quorum of Board members to be declared if Board business is not taken up.

DN sometimes sits in chairs. They might be allergic to cats.

KR is an adult living in a populous timezone. They have not read Slaughterhouse Five.

NM has lived on streets, avenues and boulevards in four counties. They have ridden a roller coaster before.

The Board is advised by a number of professionals, experts, laymen, scholars and large bodies of water.

Appendix II “BOARD OPERATIONS”

Out of concern for Board member safety, public notice of meetings as required by relevant public meeting laws is given only after meetings have taken place. For these purposes, the issuance of decisions and findings constitutes notice to the public of a meeting’s haven taken place.

The Board is governed by all laws in all jurisdictions in which its activities are compliant.

Please note that Board decorum forbids the addressing of individual members of the Board. The Board does not provide means for public comment, though members of the public are strongly encouraged to refer matters to the board by emailing board@whimsygov.org.
